Dear May,
Today I found myself in a Superstore, looking for the usual supplies such as Pokeballs and antitdotes and excetera, when something out of the corner of my eye caught my interest. I was drawn to the shinyness of a jewelry stand (and I am sure you're figuring- with great amusement- that i'll follow anything shiny like a moth to a flame as you're reading this) where two gems out of the whole collection captivated my sight. (I bet you didn't think I could write big words, did you?)
The gem on the left glistened in many shades of blue- sunlight through the windows glittered on many of the carved sides and danced all along the surface everytime you moved your head. There was harmony and peace within, though the outside gave the impression of unpredictability and insanity. The jeweler called this a 'Sapphire.'
The gem on the right was of a duller glint- shades of crimson varied depending on the light. Unlike the Sapphire, this one gave me strong feelings- passion, devotion, honesty and purity. Looking into it was like looking into a fire, though not as bright. The jeweler called this a 'Ruby.'
There were connections and levels of symmetry that I couldn't understand at the time- this was mostly because the jeweler thought I was looking for a gift to my 'girlfriend'- which I aggressively denied. I walked away in such a huff that I forgot about the purpose. The whole entire time I could see the look in that woman's eyes- like she didn't believe me at all, but kept that knowledge to herself. It was the kind of condescending smile that said, 'I'll play along with you.'
It wasn't until much later when I was washing my face that I looked into the mirror and saw my eyes through the reflection. They glowed in the same crimson color as the very ruby I saw- and I could see all the qualities I gave that gem in myself. I may be somewhat dull and uninteresting compared to the other people who shine, but I am faithful and true to the last. I burned within to be the best at everything- whether it was to win or to protect those that I cared about. I have the drive to see my dreams fulfilled.
Then I saw a vision of you behind me, and I could see the same shine in your eyes that I saw in the Sapphire. You always looked and behaved a little crazily, but you were never insane by any means. I could see the serenity in you- I could see the inner peace that would guide you through all obstacles and dangers without fail. But mostly, you shined as brightly as the Sapphire did- you've always shined the brightest out of everyone that I know, and you definitely deserved to be surrounded by similar shining gems. To that end, I do think you are meant to be with those you are currently traveling with instead of remaining here, hanging out with me. The way you talk about them, they shine as brightly as you do.
Now I am sitting in my room, writing this letter to you. Only now do I understand the full picture of the gems and what they represent. A small part of my mind is wondering why I have suddenly become so mushy with my words, and I really can only say i've experienced an epiphany. The back of my mind is calculating ferry prices while remembering where you were when you last wrote to me. Everything is clear to me at this moment.
What i'm trying to say is...
You're my Sapphire, May. If you will consent, I would like very much to be your Ruby.
See you soon,
Brendan
